Step 2: Choosing how long to be on the hCG diet

The hCG diet is broken up into three phases. You can remain in phase 1 for one month or up to three months. This depends on how much weight you would like to lose and the plan you and the doctor come up with and your body.hcg injections

Phase 1:

  • Phase 1 sets the foundation for the success of the hCG diet. This phase prepares your body to take the added fat to task and get it ready to be released during normal daily activities. One vial of hCG should last 28 to 30 days.

Phase 2:

  • The diet begins on day 3, and the length of time on the program depends on the time necessary to reach your desired weight loss goal.
  • From this point on it is necessary to follow diet instructions exactly as prescribed. If you consume more calories than prescribed or food not included in the approved food plan, weight gain might be the result. If you fall off the diet wagon at any point, it is essential to get back on track as soon as possible.

Phase 3:

The ideal calorie consumption for breakfast is 150 to 200 calories, 350 to 400 calories for lunch, a snack coming in at 100 to 200 calories and round out the day with a 350 to 400 calorie dinner.

Step 3: The selection process

Prior to starting a program you will need to complete a medical intake form. Answer all of the questions truthfully. Your information and privacy are held to the highest compliance standards under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Soon after, A physician will contact you to discuss the diet and answer any questions you have. You should not use hCG if you have ever had an allergic reaction to hCG, or if you have or had early puberty (also called precocious puberty) or a hormone-related cancer (such as prostate cancer).

Hello, Donna here! Today I’m sharing our hCG diet substitution list from my cookbook.  These are some of our favorite ingredient substitutions to use while on the HCG diet.

The Ingredients

Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar: Bragg isn’t just another vinegar. It is raw, organic, and unfiltered, meaning it’s better for your body. Best of all, it tastes delicious. The quality of your vinegar really can enhance the flavors of your food. But if you don’t have any, you may use another brand.

Bragg Liquid Aminos: This all purpose, low sodium seasoning is a healthy gourmet alternative to Soy Sauce. The flavor is similar but milder and more diverse. In fact, there many ways it can be used to enhance flavors of main dishes, salad dressings, soups, and more. It is a ‘must’-have’ for many kitchens. Bragg Liquid Aminos contains 16 essential & non essential amino acids in naturally occurring amounts from liquid soybean protein.

Creamy Sauces & Soups: When blended until smooth, cottage cheese can be added to dressings and soups to make them creamy. You won’t care that it’s not thickened with flour or sour cream. Use it sparingly.

Eggs: Three eggs with only 1 of the yokes is 1 serving of protein.

Fat Free or Low Fat Cottage Cheese: One serving is ½ cup. This is a protein, so if a recipe calls for cottage cheese, reduce the protein accordingly.

Stevia: Artificial sweeteners, including Splenda, trigger cravings for sweets and fatty foods. Stevia is natural and experts agree it is the best choice and an exceptional aid in weight management as it also contains no calories. It comes in a powder, packets, or liquid drops. Makes 2 servings (1 protein, 1 vegetable) Calories: 235 per serving
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 200 grams ground beef
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 small bay leaf
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 5 drops stevia, to taste
  • 14 oz.. can diced tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
 Sauté onions and garlic in 1 tsp. MCT oil until tender. Add beef and cook until done. Drain off fat. Add remaining ingredients and simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Add water for consistency. A Heart Attack About to Happen

After I turned 40, I gradually added pounds, but so slowly it really didn’t register with me. I should have seen in the mirror that I was starting to push things a bit. Funny thing about looking in the mirror though, you look, but often don’t really see. Occasionally I’d look in the mirror and see glimpses of my Dad standing there, but I didn’t really take serious notice of my expanding waistline.

Pictures of the family started showing this guy that was pretty big. Surprise, that was me! I took most of the pictures, so I wasn’t in that many of them. Then I noticed on a family video that I was starting to get pretty rotund, while I was outside playing with our 2 teenage boys, was the first time I made a mental note that I needed to stop enlarging. I was about probably 250 pounds by then. That’s pretty big, so its the first time I really got uncomfortable seeing myself on video.

I’d estimate that I was gaining about 5-10 lbs a year at this point, so when I passed the 300 lb mark, I was starting to see symptoms. Until then I’d always been a healthy guy, never smoked or took anything, plus I never liked to take meds of any kind, pain or otherwise.

Now that the kids were High School age, I was getting pretty fat. Funny, none of my friends from work or church ever really said anything to me about my weight, I guess they thought it wasn’t their business.

By the time the kids were gone and married, I was pretty large and out of shape. Our two boys were out of the house now, and by about 2005 my wife and I were ready to do stuff on our own, without kids to encumber. I was feeling okay – although my legs were starting to get a bit stumpy (2005).

As many of you know, fatness comes on gradually, so you don’t really notice until something snaps. With me, I started to notice that breathing was more difficult at night in bed. I would have to sleep on my side, with my tummy laying on the side so I could breath unencumbered.

I was now starting to get a barrel chest, and it seemed fairly rigid. My Father in law was like this too, so I didn’t really think much of it, especially since I really didn’t look at myself in the mirror much any more, so what was out of sight was out of mind.

I figured I always had heavy legs, and I thought that indicated that I was a pretty muscular guy [not really] and I took pride in my ability to run fast when I was a kid. Now, my legs didn’t run so fast, and my chest was getting large and my arms were getting fuller in appearance. It is amazing how the body packs away the pounds, it can find places to store fat away just about anywhere, and it’s when it starts depositing fat around your organs (Heart) that bad things can happen. I didn’t like my lower belly much, it looked like I had developed an overhang (stoop). Since I always cinched my belt up pretty tight, my tummy would want to hang over. My ‘junk’ was getting harder to see too! That can’t be good – because that’s a really important part of a guy’s ‘Self Esteem’. Whatever else happened to me, my junk needed to work, and on demand.

I’m not what you would call a dancer, but I have pretty good rhythm, and my wife had a dancing background. So, we signed up for a ballroom dance class at the ELKS hall one night a week where we would learn some new steps. Donna really enjoyed it, and I didn’t so much. I found that I was always hot, and the dancing wore me down pretty fast. But I tried not to complain too much.

After Christmas, Donna wanted to go out New Years Eve to dance. I was usually reluctant to go to these things, but told her ‘Okay’, lets go to the dance and have some fun. That night I discovered that I had very little stamina left. I was tired and had to sit a lot. Dancing was labored and caused me to sweat. I made the comment to Donna that I’d better do some resting because I didn’t feel good enough to do much dancing. That’s when she got alarmed, and awoke to my problem. She was also a bit pleasingly plump herself, but she seemed to have much more stamina for dancing and walking than I.

I would start to sweat and perspire at some pretty embarrassing times. One evening at a social occasion, I was making a presentation in front of a group of people and my head started sweating – so much that I had to continually wipe off my brow else drops of sweat would drip off onto my paper. I was certain that everyone had noticed my situation, but no one mentioned it. I guess that is just one of the things that happen to fat people…

“I didn’t Want To Know What was Wrong”

I was starting to get alarmed at my heart rate and the palpitations I was regularly feeling – my heart was acting weird! So after the New Years Dance, my wife scheduled me for a checkup. I didn’t want to go because I didn’t want to know what was going wrong. During that first visit I learned that my condition was called A-FIB (Arterial Fibrillation) and it was not a small thing. He also told me that it wasn’t that uncommon, but usually for men 15 years older than I. He also told me that I would need to start taking BP meds and he’d start treating the A-FIB. The first thing to do was to ‘Reset’ my heart. To do so required that they shock-my-heart, stop it, and then see if it starts up again! Maybe that wasn’t exactly what he described, but that’s what I heard. I knew it was serious and I’d better do something, or else I might not live much longer.

After deciding that I had to get serious about losing weight, I saw an info-mercial on late night TV about a new book titled “The Weight Loss Cure”. I’d heard of this snake oil guy before, but I called the number on TV and ordered one of the books anyway. The author proclaimed that this was a miracle weight loss cure and it had to do with the hypothalamus gland, and you had to buy his book to get any information about it.

He also said that once you go through the weight loss process, your body was pretty much immune to gaining weight from then on! Yeah, Right!! So it was the best of both worlds – fast weight loss that you won’t gain back ever again. Okay, that’s pretty funny! Anyway, I didn’t care so much about the after, I just wanted to get the weight off me as fast as possible.

I needed to feel better, and SOON! So after receiving the book in the mail I started scanning through it, trying to find where the secret was buried. I passed the fluff in the front, the annoying repetition, but then got to the place where he started talking about the hypothalamus gland. Then came the the big let down – you had to get a prescription for some substance called hcg and get a shot every morning! What! No WAY! I tossed the book over my shoulder into the back of my Jeep! I was really disappointed. Where or how was I going to get a doctor to prescribe me a regiment of hcg?

Time to Start Losing!

I told Donna about the book and we decided to do some more research on the program. We started looking on the internet for hcg and found a few clinics that offered the HCG Weight Loss Protocol, but not in our area. When we expanded our search, we found an HCG clinic on the other side of our state (200 miles away) that provided the HCG Diet program – and the cost was in the $500-$600 range. We jumped at the chance and immediately scheduled an appointment with them.

When we arrived at the HCG clinic, we met with the Dr. and then talked with a ‘diet consultant’ who described the process, taught us how to give ourselves the shots, gave us a log sheet to keep, and then got us our hcg – a clear liquid in a 5000 IU bottle – enough to last a month. We started the process, with full anticipation of success. We re-ordered a total of 3 times, one of which came to us one summer day in high heat – the hcg bottle was too hot to comfortably hold in the hand. But we cooled it down and it still seemed to work fine.

I was a wimp, and didn’t like the idea of giving myself a shot every day, so I’d have Donna do it for me. In the morning, I’d get in the shower, and she would load up the syringe, and call me to the front of the shower where she would inject me. Most of the time I couldn’t even feel the shot, that’s how wimpy I was. Then came the day that she was gone on a tip to visit her sister, and it was up to me to get the shot prepared, and give it to myself. That first time was a scare, but after doing it, I determined that it wasn’t that hard, and I started doing my own shots from then on.

From the beginning, the program amazed us – we both started losing weight like crazy at first! I lost 12 pounds that first week and Donna lost a lot as well! We were excited! After a few weeks we hit our first plateau, and worked through that, kept up the good work and kept losing. Over a 4 month period, I had lost 95 pounds, and by the end I was feeling darn good!

Doctors orders required me to keep a BP record. I was on Kumaden and some BP med that made me feel generally crappy. I noticed that after a few weeks my BP had come down to just above normal, and I’d read that I should keep an eye on my BP so that I would not go TOO low, especially since I was taking BP meds to bring my blood pressure down. I was mostly concerned about the Kumaden though – that is a nasty stuff that thins down your blood, and is dangerous because it is possible for a patient to bleed too much, or get an aneurysm in the brain! I had to go in to see a nurse every week, for her to check my blood and make sure my dosage was working properly for me.

My Cardiologist said that having A-FIB meant that I was 5 times more likely to have a stroke. I didn’t want a stroke, never had one, didn’t want one. Later I would find out how much I don’t like strokes because my mother suffered from a few mini strokes which rendered her wheel chair bound and immensely frustrated.

After I started the hcg diet my BP came down to just above normal so I started to wean myself off BP meds, but my main focus was to get off Kumaden. After 2 months 50+ lbs lost, my Cardiologist was surprised that both of us had lost so much weight in the matter of 2 short months. We asked him why he didn’t put us on a diet when we first visited him and he said that people just don’t do it, so he doesn’t push it.

We followed the program straight through for 4 months, although we had several plateaus that bugged us, but we worked through them. We lost lots of weight at first, then it tapered down until in the last few weeks we were losing about 2-3 lbs per week. Still, after 4 months, I had lost 95 pounds, and the wife lost approx 60.

Never Thought I’d Be In a Wheelchair

How Did the HCG Diet Save Our Lives?

I was a typical active and healthy kid, the 4th of 6 children. I can be a girly-girl, but I’m also very active and a bit of a tom-boy. You could often find me sitting in the top of a eucalyptus tree or playing in the dirt with my little brothers, digging tunnels for our cars. I was a master on the pogo stick and once jumped 1000 times without stopping. That was in the 50’s, and I had blond hair long enough to sit on, and it was usually in braids. As I bounced up and down the street with my braids flopping, the neighbors thought I looked like Annie Oakley. I liked that. Other activities I enjoyed over the years included hiking and camping, square dancing, ballroom dancing (complete with lifts, which meant I was frequently dropped on my fanny), water skiing (with more falling), and scuba diving, just to name a few. I liked to be active. You wouldn’t catch me sun-bathing on the beach if the options of body-surfing or snorkeling were available.

Eating Was Fun

Some of the foods I learned to make are now practically a lost art, such as home made noodles, bread, and pies. We sometimes churned our own butter. You don’t know what you’re missing if you haven’t tasted homemade butter, which I still make. Not many people make food from ‘scratch’ any more. But that’s something I learned to take pride in. I love it when someone asks me for a recipe. Years later, while I was on the HCG Diet, I wrote a cook book utilizing the HCG Diet Foods. I am anxious to share some of my HCG Diet recipes with you.


I met my Stan, my future husband, in Melbourne Australia in 1972. We quickly became good friends, and on November 3rd 1973 we got married. He was 22 and I was 24. Yes, I guess I robbed the cradle, but only a little. We loved to do things together. We camped, hiked, and because I loved it, we ballroom danced. He wasn’t very good at it and didn’t like it very much and his hands are a little spastic; he can’t control which way his fingers are pointing while his brain is trying to remember which way to twirl me. But the fact that he tried, showed how much he loved me. Every time we went dancing he forget everything he learned the last time. Still, I appreciated his sacrifice and effort.


Shortly after we got married we discovered that I had endometriosis, which is very painful and often results in difficulty having children. It took 10 years before we finally started our family, and as hard as that was, it did gave us 10 years together. We started our first business, and did lots of fun things. We bought a boat, and Stan learned to ski and knee-board, and I learned to slalom (I graduated from 2 skis to 1).


I stayed as active as I could, but both work and play were usually difficult because of my frequent pain. Medically, nothing was helping. So Stan and I decided to try something fairly radical. We totally changed the way we ate in the hopes that I would feel better. I went through the kitchen cabinets and threw away pre-packaged foods, and especially anything with sugar in it. We followed all of the current “healthy fads” of the day. Most were a good idea, while a few might seem a little extreme to some people. I made yogurt, sprouted beans, ground wheat, made whole wheat bread, juiced vegetables, and bought raw milk, fertile eggs, and organic vegetables (which comes complete with worms). These are only some of the changes we made, and I’m sure we were better off with our improved eating habits, but it didn’t improve my medical condition or alleviate any pain. Although we haven’t always followed through with our revised eating plan, we definitely learned a lot about healthy eating. So we really had no good excuse when our eating habits got more relaxed and we began to put on weight.


We were both healthy and active and so far had never had any significant weight or health problems. But over the years we learned how extra pounds can creep up on you when you least expect it. For at least the first 15 years of marriage, we kept our youthful figures with little effort. Then, even though we were eating and doing things pretty much the same, I began to put on a few pounds each year, and fluctuated between being 10 to 20 pounds overweight. Then Stan also began to gain weight. Since he had never really had an issue with weight until then, he gained rapidly. We gradually formed bad habits and got away from our formerly healthy eating habits. I had tried just about every diet over the years, and Stan had done a few with me. We would lose some weight and quickly gain it back. That roller coaster dieting creates discouragement and decreased incentive. You eventually give up and think there’s no hope for you. (This is the point when some people resort to going under the knife to lose weight. Let me just say that most of the people I know who have weight loss surgery end up eventually gaining their weight back, just like with most diets. But unlike diets, it’s permanent.) Stan was actually considering going under the knife. He was desperate.

Stan was an accident about to happen! One afternoon in early 2008, Stan and I decided to go for a short walk around the neighborhood with some friends. The purpose was to get some cardio, but Stan just seemed to be strolling. Frustrated, I asked him if he would walk faster, and he said, “I can’t walk any faster than this”. That took me back! I was surprised and became worried. He doesn’t say much when he doesn’t feel good, and it turned out he had been worried about his heart in recent months because he could feel that it wasn’t beating properly. We had attended a New Years Eve dance just a few months prior, and had to leave early because he was feeling pretty bad. Now I realized this was a related incident.

Stan the Man – During a sad time We made an appointment with a Doctor, and he was put on a blood thinner (very dangerous!), and 2 blood pressure medications. After a few months, at our request, he referred Stan to a Cardiologist, and after a few visits we learned that he had arterial fibrillation. That’s where your heart skips beats…not an ideal situation. His very high blood pressure wasn’t coming down in spite of the 2 medications, and he was more than 100 pounds overweight.


I wasn’t doing so well myself. When I later stepped on the scale, for the first time in years, I was at least 60 pounds overweight and had my own set of complaints, including plantar fasciitis. It involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. It’s aggravated or caused by carrying too much weight. I had Plantar Fasciitis in just my right foot at that time, but it eventually spread to my left foot as well. As it progressed, I had to stop doing anything that required being on my feet. I borrowed a wheel chair to get things done around the house… cleaning, laundry, dishes, and everything else. I started to use the motorized carts in the stores. Most of my friends didn’t know my feet were bothering me. Every time I walked into a meeting, a party, church, picnic, or anywhere, really, I immediately looked for a chair to sit down in. I even bought a little 3-legged stool that folded up and doubled as a cane. That would give my feet temporary relief if I knew I would have place to sit down, such as in a line, like at the bank or in a store. If I was using a shopping cart, I was leaning heavily on it, anxious to get back to my car and sit down.For a couple of years I suffered with Plantar Fasciitis, visiting different kinds of Doctors and Physical Therapists, but nothing helped. Some days were better than others. But to avoid the inevitable pain, I had to alter my lifestyle to the point of removing most activities, and arrange it so I was sitting down almost all of the time. That sucked! Looking back, that walk around the neighborhood was probably not a good idea for me. The fact that I was able to walk that far meant that I was having a “good” day, or didn’t want our friends to know that I had foot problems, and I was just ‘biting the bullet’, fully aware that I was going to hurt the next day.

On one of our visits to the Cardiologist, the Doctor was setting up an appointment for Stan to go to the hospital and have his heart stopped< (you heard that right), and then shock it to get it re-started. Wow! That sounded scary! The Doctor told us that once in awhile the heart doesn't re-start. I'm sure that's rare, but still.....! So, the appointment was made, and before we left Stan asked the Doctor to put him on a diet, since our own efforts hadn't been working for either of us. His response was, “Let's get your heart working properly, then we'll talk about that".

The day before Stan’s scary appointment:

I had attended every one of Stan’s Doctor’s appointments and had every intention of being at the hospital when they stopped and re-started his heart. But then something scary happened to me!

It was Sunday morning, and Stan’s appointment was going to be the next day (Monday). I woke up not feeling very well, so he went to church without me. Within an hour my stomach was really sick and I was very dizzy. While I was throwing up in a bowl, I passed out and my face went into the bowl, and luckily, I came to and sat back up again. I couldn’t figure out why I was sitting with my head against the wall and I was all wet. I saw the bowl in my lap, with some orange juice in it, and lots more orange juice everywhere else and on me. (Orange juice was the last thing I had to drink.)I called Stan and a Friend and I was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. At the hospital it was explained to me that I had aspirated, which is when you inhale something other than air into your lungs. It’s pretty much the same thing as drowning, except I had inhaled my own vomit (the one thing that makes this story not as gross, is that the last thing I threw up was only orange juice). It turns out, a lot people die from aspirating, either right away, or later from infection in the lungs. The next morning in the hospital, I told the Doctor I needed to get over to the other hospital, because my husband was having a scary procedure and I needed to be there with him. He informed me that wasn’t going to happen. He said I had aspirated, explained what it was, and told me that I could have died, and I still could. He said I needed to stay in the hospital for a week to be monitored for lung infection and to normalize my breathing.


I was in one hospital and Stan was in another one. He was on his own. That afternoon they stopped his heart and restarted it with a shock (not a very technical description). The procedure went smoothly and he started to feel better. A week later I was able to return home. After that Stan had weekly, then monthly follow-up visits to his Doctor to check his heart and blood pressure, and still, never once did the Doctor try to help Stan lose weight!

A few weeks following Stan’s heart procedure is when we heard about HCG. Cheat Meal Guidelines for Best Results

  1. Eat foods high in carbohydrates, because carbohydrates have the strongest effect on metabolic rate.
  2. Don’t hold back or try to restrict. The object is to allow the body to replenish glycogen (sugar) stores in the muscle tissue, and provide enough calories for the body to adapt.
  3. Make sure the ‘cheat’ is only as long as needed. This will change from person to person, and will change as your body fat drops. The general idea is that the leaner you get, the more often you will need ‘Cheat Meals’.
  4. Don’t expect to lose weight rapidly all the way to the last few pounds. When weight loss slows down, which is normal, many dieters will overreact and restrict calories even more. This is counterproductive. You are actually giving the body more of a reason to slow down the fat loss. Instead, you will need more frequent cheat meals as you get closer to your goal, because the body becomes more resistant to fat loss.

How Much HCG Should I Take Each Day?

If you are too hungry on the diet, Don’t automatically blame the HCG. I have often been asked the question, “how much HCG should I take each day?”. The truth is that it varries from person to person. When my husband and I owned an HCG clinic, we found that almost all of the dieters did just fine on 150iu’s per day. Often, you will hear so-called HCG diet experts tell others that hunger should be the guage of whether or not the HCG is working. This is absolutely NOT true. At no point did any of our doctors or nutritionists find that HCG dosage caused hunger related issues. It’s just not the case. In fact, most of the time, hunger has a LOT more to do with the diet protocol and how the body reacts to it. The dramatic drop in hunger is related both to HCG and even more importantly, the diet protocol. Some find their hunger is reduced almost immediately. Others find that it takes a week. Some have some hunger issues throughout the entire diet. Our individual genetics and dieting history plays a huge role in this particular area.

Immediately after the two day loading phase, you will begin following the low calorie diet as outlined below.

Minimum amount of time on the HCG Diet

After starting the HCG Diet Protocol, Dr. Simeon’s noted that a person must follow the diet for a minimum of 3 weeks in order to reset the metabolism. I recomend following phase 1 for 4-6 weeks. The length of the round should mostly be determined by the rate at which you are losing weight. If weight loss is too slow during the fourth week, it’s likely that the body needs a break from the very low calorie diet. However, if you are still losing weight at a fast pace (2+ lbs per week), you could continue on for a total of 6 weeks. In some rare cases, we had individuals stay on phase 1 for longer periods of time. These were usually individuals who had over 100 lbs to lose. The reason this is possible, is because the body is less resistant to weight loss when there is more to lose. Also, the reduced metabolic rate adaptation that occurs to anyone in a calorie deficit is GREATLY reduced if the person has a lot more weight to lose. In other words, you can get away with longer low calorie diet rounds if you have more weight to lose.

Maximum amount of time on the HCG Diet

Dieters will often get excited about the rapid changes in body weight and shape, and try to overextend the duration of the Low Calorie Diet. In the long run, this will most likely cause a reduced metabolic rate. In order to maximize results over time and guard against rebounding, follow this set of guidelines:

  • Don’t exceed 6 weeks on the HCG diet, unless you have a LOT of weight to lose, and you are still losing at a rapid pace.
  • Follow Phase 3 after each time you complete Phase 2 of the HCG Diet.

Is 500 Calories Too Low?

For starters, I need to correct myself. Although Dr. Simeons designed the diet with 500 calories over 50 years ago, very few providers offer anything lower than 800 calories per day. In fact, 800-1200 calories is more typical nowdays. This has been a widely debated topic, and for good reason. Is the HCG Diet Dangerous? Not if you are under doctor supervision. Is 800 calories enough for anyone to live on? Well, no. But that isn’t the point, right? The point of a diet, is to help you lose weight over a set period of time. After the weight is lost, the dieter then returns to eating at maintenance. If we were to judge any weight loss plan, based on it’s ability to be sustained forever, all weight loss plans would fail. The only way to lose weight, is a calorie deficit. You have to be eating less calories than you are burning. After the weight5 is lost, you then switch gears, and match calorie intake to carolie output.

The 500 Calorie HCG Diet

The only way to lose weight is to create a calorie deficit. This can be done with diet, or exercise. Regardless of how you do it, the point is to eat less calories than the body burns, and allow the body to get the rest of the calories from fat. That’s how fat storage works. In times when food is scarce, fat provides calories. In this way, the body is STILL GETTING CALORIES. The difference is that the calories are coming from fat. When fat stores are gone, then yes, each individual should then resume eating a maintenance level of calories. For most individuals who have a lot of weight to lose, a large calorie deficit is perfectly safe. Not only that, but HCG actually supports and spares lean body mass during the HCG Diet.
